چکیده
. the auther cocerns the explanation of mind_body relation.he divides the theories into two catagories: non_dualistic and dualistic. he then provides a survey of the main points mentioned in post renaissance europe down to the present, with special regard to post_cartesian philosophers. cartesian philosophy escalated the dualistic character of mind and body up to its apex. he was slated by plato, with its religions aspect strengthened by christion philosophy. descartes's theory in the relation of mind to body raised a number of objectsagainst itself, e.g. the refutation of matter_energy rule, and that of originalities of cause and effect. of the dualistic views, the most noted one is that of malbranche who holds that mind and body incidents do not have any causal effect on each other; rather, the incidence of any happening or out in any field serves as a cause for god's creatoin of something like that somewhere else. however, the main objction to this theory is of the causal effects of mind and and body on one another despite their differenc. the author then proceeds to mention some other theories, e. g. a priori coordination, minor phenomena, idealism, behaviuorism, referential sameness, pragmatism, eomputer model of mind, and the theory of riddles

impact on Ibn Tufayl's forerunners, especially Avicenna, whom Ibn Tufayl quotes expressly. Salim Kemal's 'Justifications of poetic validity' gives a very condensed summary of his monograph The poetics ofAlfarabi and Avicenna (Leiden, 1991). But I doubt whether Ibn Tufayl's novel kind of thought experiment can be grasped in terms of Avicenna's poetology. The medieval Latin translators did not co...
متن کاملThe Philosophy of Science and its relation to Machine Learning
In this chapter I discuss connections between machine learning and the philosophy of science. First I consider the relationship between the two disciplines. There is a clear analogy between hypothesis choice in science and model selection in machine learning. While this analogy has been invoked to argue that the two disciplines are essentially doing the same thing and should merge, I maintain t...
متن کاملJohn Dewey's Philosophy of Education Before Democracy and Education
John Dewey's Democracy and Education: An Introduction to the Philosophy of Education, was published in 1916. It is still the best-known work in philosophy of education by an American author, and has remained in print down to the present time. Democracy and Education differs from many texts in the philosophy of education in that it was not written merely as a philosophy to be "applied" to educat...
متن کاملGoldilocks: Efficiently Computing the Happens-Before Relation Using Locksets
We present a new lockset-based algorithm, Goldilocks, for precisely computing the happens-before relation and thereby detecting data-races at runtime. Dynamic race detection algorithms in the literature are based on vector clocks or locksets. Vector-clock-based algorithms precisely compute the happens-before relation but have significantly more overhead. Previous lockset-based race detection al...
